Foundation Level
Basic communication and understanding of simple everyday expressions. Words for everyday life: greetings, numbers, time, family, food, places.Can read simple sentences and short phrases (e.g., signs, menus, basic dialogues).
Low Intermediate Level
Bridge between beginner and advanced. Politeness distinctions and formality levels. Around 3,700–4,000 vocabulary words and 650–700 kanji. Broader reading topics (news blurbs, instructions, short essays) Can follow everyday conversations and read straightforward articles or narratives with support.
Intermediate | Advanced
Comprehend complex written and spoken Japanese used in various contexts. Around 6,000 vocabulary words and 1,000 kanji. Reading passages similar to newspaper or magazine articles Can understand news, business, and everyday professional discussions; read complex materials.
Advanced Level
Comprehension of high-level Japanese in any setting — academic, literary, or professional. Around 10,000+ vocabulary words and about 2,000 kanji (officially includes the majority of Jōyō kanji). Academic, literary, and technical terms.Can read newspapers, research papers, literature; follow debates or lectures in detail.

Certification
All courses that are completed will include a paper and digital certificate issued by TIAJEC indicating your name and number of hours of study you have completed. This is not official certification but it can serve as proof of enrollment and be used for employment purposes or visa applications.
