Learn from veteran teachers
We have a range of courses developed around the JLPT exams. All of our lessons are conducted online and private 1:1 lessons with an experienced Japanese instructor. Each lesson is 45 minutes in length and can be booked online with our online booking system.
Foundation Level
Basic communication and understanding of simple everyday expressions. Words for everyday life: greetings, numbers, time, family, food, places.Can read simple sentences and short phrases (e.g., signs, menus, basic dialogues).
Low Intermediate Level
Bridge between beginner and advanced. Politeness distinctions and formality levels. Around 3,700–4,000 vocabulary words and 650–700 kanji. Broader reading topics (news blurbs, instructions, short essays) Can follow everyday conversations and read straightforward articles or narratives with support.
Intermediate | Advanced
Comprehend complex written and spoken Japanese used in various contexts. Around 6,000 vocabulary words and 1,000 kanji. Reading passages similar to newspaper or magazine articles Can understand news, business, and everyday professional discussions; read complex materials.
Advanced Level
Comprehension of high-level Japanese in any setting — academic, literary, or professional. Around 10,000+ vocabulary words and about 2,000 kanji (officially includes the majority of Jōyō kanji). Academic, literary, and technical terms.Can read newspapers, research papers, literature; follow debates or lectures in detail.

TIA Japanese Education Center (TIAJEC) has been teaching Japanese and world languages to companies and individuals for over 35 years.
Our school is located at the foot of Lake Kasumigaura and near Mount Tsukuba. We are about 80km north of Tokyo but can reach a global audience through our online and in-person presence.
